Subj: Stopped In NJ
Date: 3/7/00
Well, actually I did have legal problems :-) In the communist state of NJ (where you can't pump your own gas) I decided to get off an exit and take on a couple gallons at a 24 hour gas station before getting to PA. As I got to the end of the exit ramp the gas advisory sign pointed "left 2 miles." I said to heck with that and decided to get back on to the interstate. The conundrum came as I looked at the lane markings. Two went left, one went right, and none went straight on to the entrance ramp. As the light turned green, being in the center lane, I made a little zigzag and went up the ramp. One minute later, I had the array of disco lights bouncing around inside the cockpit. No problem, I wasn't speeding, in fact I was going slower than speed limit because I was in the fuel conservation mode. After the wonderful day we all had I was thinking that here was another NSX admirer who wanted to see my car. Nope, all he wanted was my license, registration, and insurance papers. OK, he'll get the formal stuff out of the way and then ask me about my car. Nope, just wanted to know why I didn't go the direction the lane told me to go. I told him, he gave me my papers back, and said all but a couple of counties require the gas be pumped by an attendant. I told him I would try to make it to PA, but if I couldn't, I would give him a call. I left, he left (at least he could have asked me how I liked my car :-(
I don't know how other NSXs are, but my "20 minute fuel light" (aircraft talk for low fuel advisory) doesn't come on until the gauge indicates empty. This is lower than my Accord. So when I tanked up in PA, the gauge indicated slightly below empty, but I only took on 15.5 gallons. Plenty of fuel to spare.
Well, as usual, I took a lot of space to say I had a great time too, am looking forward to the 24th, and I am not sure if it is good or bad for you, but I wish we lived closer.
My best to you and Sylvia, Larry
